They come for a hot meal, but also, more. Integral to The Gathering Place has always been to be a place of community for all who may feel on the margins: whether they are experiencing financial strain, employment instability, mental health and addictions challenges, homelessness, loneliness or other factors.
When the world turned upside down in March of 2020, KesPres became host to The Gathering Place. A small number of very dedicated volunteers from throughout Georgina, prepare the weekly meal, now offered only by take out or delivery. And since March of 2020, the need for this meal has multiplied, now serving 185 people each week. We are grateful to the volunteers who make the meals each week and to volunteer drivers and a partnership with Routes Georgina to help deliver many of the meals. We are also grateful for the ongoing support of the Food Bank of York Region, grants provided through Mazon Canada and Food Banks Canada, and for the generosity and support of members of the Georgina community who continue to provide financial support and encouragement as we serve our neighbours.
