It is with deep sadness that the family of Robert Shawn Donovan announce his sudden and unexpected passing after a brief illness on Monday, September 25, 2017 at the age of 48.
Beloved husband of Melinda, Rob will be forever missed by his sons Patrick (16) and Matthew (14). Cherished son to Don and Penny Donovan and son-in-law to Berndt (Mary) Schwarze. Dearly missed by brothers Ian and Jeff (Andrea) Donovan, and brother-in-law Attila (Sivan) Schwarze.
Rob had many joys in his life but none was more important than his family. He enjoyed his vacations and retreats and many of these came to be much anticipated family traditions. He was an active member of his church, serving in many ways. He found both inner peace and understanding of the world around him through his faith. Rob was a kind man whose gentle smile and laugh will never be forgotten.
He was a scientist both by profession and by heart and had a strong commitment to his work. He expressed gratitude for the ability to work among some of the world’s top scientists. These included his early days on University Avenue in Toronto and more recently at Sciex in Concord.
Rob grew up in Thunder Bay where he attended elementary and secondary school. His senior high school year at the Ontario Science Centre was a particular highlight and he was chosen as class valedictorian. Rob attended The University of Waterloo for his undergraduate and graduate engineering degrees, before settling and raising his family in Newmarket.
