Family Resemblance

You’ve heard the name “David” mentioned more than a few times during our Psummer Pseries on the Psalms and rightfully so because David, traditionally, has been considered the author of many of the Psalms. So it might not surprise you that David’s son, Solomon, was known to write a few Psalms himself – like father like son – and Psalm 73 may just be one them. Now, if you know anything about David’s family life you would know growing up as the King’s son (or any King’s son or daughter for that matter) would have both advantages and disadvantages… Although Scripture calls David, “A man after God’s own heart” such was not always the case. David was a man of great faith but also a man of great failure. And sad to say young Solomon lived with some of those mistakes (in the eyes of the world) and sins (in the eyes of God). Maybe you can say the same of your own childhood – an abusive, drunken, promiscuous father may have been your reality too. So I imagine Solomon growing may have said something like, “I will never be anything like my father”. Like father, like son…
